President Klaus spoke in a telephone conversation with the President of the State of Israel

On January 5, 2009, the President of Israel, H. E. Mr. Shimon Peres, called the President of the Czech Republic, H. E. Mr. Václav Klaus. President Peres informed President Klaus about the causes and circumstances of the Israeli intervention in Gaza.
President Klaus emphasised that he was a supporter of a balanced attitude towards the present phase of the conflict. Regarding the tragic development in the region he regarded as necessary to seek for a solution in a short term, which would stop the military actions. TheCzech Republic is willing to assist such solution. President Klaus took a note that the Israeli government negotiated with all Arabic countries and was prepared to participate in the UN talks.
