Czech sociologist and social worker

The daughter of T.G. Masaryk studied philosophy, history and sociology at universities in Prague, Berlin and Leipzig and as of 1906 taught at secondary schools in Ceske Budejovice and Prague where in 1911 she established the sociological branch of the Union of Czechoslovak Students. Having been interned in 1915-16 she was placed under police supervision. In 1918-20 she was a member of the Revolutionary National Assembly on behalf of the Slovak Club. Between 1919 and 1939 she was chairman of the Czechoslovak Red Cross and also held the post of chairman of the International Confederation of Social Work. During the World War II she lived in USA and emigrated there once more in 1948. In 1950 she published memoirs in a book entitled "Childhood and Youth". (mch)
