The Presidential Office Archive sorts, professionally processes and makes available written documentation produced through the activity of the Office of the President of the Republic; measured in ordinary metres, archive materials and documentations with a size of almost 1000 metres are stored in the depositories of the archive. Within the archive network of the Czech Republic, the Presidential Office Archive is classified amongst archives of special importance. Study within the archive is governed by the Research Code, the provisions of which ensue from the Archiving Act no. 97/1974 Coll., as amended by Acts nos. 343/1992 Coll. and 27/2000 Coll.

Funds and collections

The following funds and collections are available to researchers:

  • Presidential Office Fund (1919-)
  • National Court Fund (1939-1942)
  • London Archive Fund (1940-1945)
  • Collection of photographic documentation (1919-)
  • Collection of newspaper clippings

The most frequently studied archive materials are those from the period between the two World Wars. Amongst other materials, the archive contains documents about our presidents, with the most comprehensive documentation about president T.G. Masaryk. Other materials feature for example written documentation from bearers of the Order of the White Lion, pardons granted by presidents in criminal matters since 1919, as well as the appointment of our governments, ministers, judges, university professors, and top state officials - i.e. all of those for whom the president is responsible for appointing. The chronological scope of the materials processed in the archive is from the years 1919-1962.
