Czech Republic Ambassadors abroad
Appointing and receiving ambassadors of the Czech Republic abroad
President of the Czech Republic appoints the Head of the Diplomatic Mission of the Czech Republic in a position of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador at the head of the receiving state in accordance with Art. 63 of the Constitution of the Czech Republic. The person of the ambassador is recommended to the President of the Republic by the Government of the Czech Republic based on the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The appropriate resolution of the Government is approved by signature of the President of the Republic and passed to the Prime Minister for countersignature.
After that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic asks through the intermediary of the Diplomatic Mission of the Czech Republic in the country in question, namely, the authorities of the receiving state, for an "agrément", i.e. their approval with the person of the ambassador. In the event of approval of the receiving state the future ambassador is granted the "agrément".
Prior to departure to the country of destination the designated ambassador pays usually a courtesy visit to and is received by the President of the Czech Republic.
The ambassador takes up officially his/her office at the time of presenting the accreditation papers, namely, upon handing over the formal letter written by the President of the Czech Republic to the head of the receiving state by means of which the President has empowered the ambassador to discharge his/her mission in the country of destination. The accreditation papers are handed over to the head of the receiving state during a ceremonial audience.
The list of ambassadors of the Czech Republic is registered and kept by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
