Appointing of University Rectors
Power of the President of the Republic to appoint University Rectors results from the Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Universities and on change of and amendment to other acts. The term of office of rectors is three years.

President of the Republic Vaclav Klaus appointed prof. PhD. Petr Fiala, PhD. a new Rector of Masaryk University in Brno upon the proposal of the Academic Senate, with effect from September 1, 2004.

1. Doc. RNDr. Vladimir Baar, app. PhD., Ostrava University in Ostrava
2. Prof. PhD. Vaclav Buzek, app. PhD., South Bohemian University in Ceske Budejovice
3. Doc. PhD. Zdenek Havel, app. PhD., Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem
4. Prof. PhD. Zdenek Jirasek, app. PhD., Silesian University in Opava
5. Doc. M. Sc. Josef Prusa, app. PhD., University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
