President of the Czech Republic Congratulated the President of the USA
President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman sent a letter of congratulations to Joseph Robinette Biden, the president-elect of the United States of America.
Allow me to congratulate you cordially on your election as the President of the United States of America. The support you received is not only a reflection of the American people’s trust in your leadership skills, which you have proven countless times during your years of public service, but is also a call of the American citizens for change.
Considering the crucial role American democracy has played in global politics, your election is an event that has a global impact. The power of democratic values itself, from which the U.S. has thrived, has been an inspiration to many parts of the world. This is also why I have closely followed your public speeches in which I appreciated your strong determination to strengthen the transatlantic bond with the closest partners of the U.S. The Czech Republic certainly belongs among them.
I believe that during your Presidency, just like many times before, we will prove together that the Czech Republic and the United States are strong allies and good friends. Our broad and versatile relationship grows from the strong partnership that was founded already at the birth of our statehood and proven during critical moments of the 20th century. Thanks to the American support, the Czech Republic returned to the family of democratic countries after 1989, became a member of NATO, and developed into a self-confident, responsible, and active part of the international community. Czechs and Americans share the key and principle values that are the backbone of the Euro-Atlantic world.
Our alliance projects itself into many fields. The United States is our important political and economic partner, which is illustrated, amongst others, by the fact that most Czech exports outside the EU go to the U.S. However, recently we Europeans have been hearing about looming tit-for-tat economic measures, with which I strongly and consistently disagree. I think it is clear that Europe needs America, just as America needs Europe. Subsequently, together we can contribute to a fairer global free trade.
Despite our relations being excellent, they could welcome fresh inputs. We are ready for it and hope it may come with your Administration. I can assure you that the Czech Republic values her friendship with the United States. So do I. The bond between the Czech Republic, Europe and the United States is and will be solid and unbreakable. I strongly believe that both of us can personally contribute to further deepening our bilateral relationship. Therefore, I cordially invite you to visit Prague.
Dear Mr President-Elect, I congratulate you once again and wish you, your family, and the American people good health and all the best.
President of the Czech Republic
Jiri Ovcacek, Director of the Press Department and Spokesman for the President
