In Vilnius, the President of the Republic held talks with the Lithuanian President, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of Parliament. The working visit focused on the development of bilateral relations, security issues within NATO, and support for Czech companies.
The first item on the programme was the welcoming ceremony for the presidential couple on Thursday, 12 March, hosted by President Gitanas Nausėda and his wife at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius. This was followed by a meeting between the two heads of state. On this occasion, the Lithuanian President awarded President Pavel the Order of Vytautas the Great, the country’s highest state honour. After the delegation talks, President Pavel, together with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, paid tribute to those who fell for Lithuania’s independence by laying a wreath at Antakalnis Cemetery.
The President of the Republic also held talks with the Prime Minister of the host country, Inga Ruginienė, and the Speaker of Parliament, Juozas Olekas. Presidents Pavel and Nausėda then jointly visited the border protection operations centre in Padvarionys, where they were briefed on the situation at the external border of the European Union and on the work of the Lithuanian border guard service.
On Friday, 13 March, the two heads of state jointly opened the Czech-Lithuanian Business Forum, attended by nearly one hundred and fifty participants. On this occasion, four cooperation agreements were also signed between Czech and Lithuanian institutions and companies in the fields of defence, biotechnology, and scientific research. They also visited the military base in Rukla, where President Pavel met with soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic serving as part of NATO’s mission in the Baltics.
