President elect Petr Pavel took the oath of office at the joint meeting of both chambers of the Parliament on March 9th and assumed his duties as President of the Czech Republic. The inaugural ceremony in the Vladislav Hall of Prague Castle was attended by representatives of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, by members of the government, excellences and both ex-presidents of the Czech Republic.

The swearing-in ceremony started at 2 p.m. and was broadcast live by Czech Television on screens in Hradčanské Square. After the signing of the oath and the national anthem, Petr Pavel delivered his inaugural address.
