Field of activity

EmblemThe Military Office of the President of the Republic is a military section of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic by course of Section 5 of Act No. 114/1993 Coll., on the Office of the President of the Republic, as amended by Act No. 224/1999 Coll.

The Military Office fulfils tasks in accordance with Section 26 of Act No. 219/1999 Coll., on the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, in connection with the exercise of authorities of the President of the Republic as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and tasks in connection with the administration of the Castle Guard.

In its activities the Military Office is governed by the Constitution and laws of the Czech Republic, orders and directives of the President of the Republic and Organisational Code of the Military Office approved by the President of the Republic. In addition to this the Military Office is governed in its activities by military regulations and principles, orders and directives of the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, which generally stipulate (outline) activities and obligations of military institutions and professional military persons within the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic.

In its activity the Military Office resolves the following main tasks:

  • Provision of tasks in connection with the constitutional authority of the President of the Republic to appoint generals, rectors and professors of military universities;
  • Provision of tasks in connection with the constitutional authority of the President of the Republic to confer and bequeath state honours;
  • Provision of tasks in connection with the constitutional authority of the President of the Republic upon granting of amnesty, exemption from or alleviation of punishments in relation to the members of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic;
  • Provision of tasks in connection with the functions and activities of the President of the Republic as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces;
  • Arrangement of submissions of members of the Armed Forces, other citizens of the Czech Republic or citizens of other states in the case that such persons address the President of the Republic as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, or address the Military Office, with requests, notifications, complaints and initiatives;
  • Processing of proposals for orders of the President of the Republic;
  • Processing (in co-operation with the Ministry of Defence) of proposals for letters to be sent by the President of the Republic in his role as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces;
  • Organisational provision of welcoming visits of military representatives by the President of the Republic and preparation of visits of the President of the Republic to units and facilities of the Czech Republic Army (in co-operation with the relevant departments of the Office of the President of the Republic);
  • Provision of tasks in connection with administrative activities;
  • Provision of tasks in connection with the administration of the Castle Guard.

The First Section is engaged with providing and implementing the execution of the constitutional authorities of the President of the Republic as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, management of the Castle Guard and the administrative agenda of the Military Office of the President of the Republic.

The Second Section is engaged with providing and implementing analytical and information support for the President of the Republic within the field of defence of the Czech Republic, and is further responsible for analysis, assessment and preparation of source materials for the decision-making and working conduct of the President of the Republic, in co-operation with the relevant sections of the Ministry of Defence.
